CHAMPION CONTINUES GOOD FORM

The current 400 meter Elsen Schools South African record holder athlete, Leander Pholman (17 years) from Langebaan on the Cape West Coast, was brilliant at the Athletics South African Championships final on Friday 4 April 2024 at the Daljosafat Stadium in Paarl.

The pupil from the West Coast School in Saldanha Bay just missed his own South African 400-meter record in a time of 49.56 seconds. The wind which was quite strong at 1.1 certainly played a factor in the outcome of all the athletes’ winning times.  Second was Kabongo Kazadi from the Gauteng Province, in a time of 52.07 seconds, with Owen Samuels (WP) in third place with 52.57s.

The following day, Pholman continued his good form on the athletics track, when he won the 200 and 8oo meter titles.  He started the day off by winning the 200 meters’ race in 22.31 seconds, with Gauteng’s  Kabongo Kazadi finishing on Pholman’s heels  in second place with 23.27 seconds.  Modieginyana Mosa (Northwest Province) finished in third place over the finish line with 23.36 seconds.
In the afternoon, Pholman won the 800 meters race very comfortably in 01.71 seconds, with Monyane Raliengoane   on his heels with 02.06.76 seconds, and Reatlegile Ramaphakela who finished in third place with 02.09.65 seconds.  All three of these athletes are from Western Cape schools.
