MISSES GREEN @ GOLD WITH 0.6 SECONDS

LANGEBAAN:- Master barefoot runner, Clive Cupido missing the Green and Gold  at the WP Masters Championships in Greenpoint stadium on May 28. 2002, with 0.6s of a second.

The Western Province Masters have this annual event on their calendar, and Boland won 25 medals,  only Bellville Athletics club did better with 32 medals.  Also at this event 4 South African masters records were broken.  At a wet Greenpoint, t he barefoot Strandloper Athletic Club in Langebaan,  Clive had a tough time as he completed 2 middle distance and 1 sprint event in a matter of 85 minutes. His recovery time was pushed to the limits. Although Clive won the silver medal in the 400m, he pushed  Peter Doren of South Peninsula Amateur Athletics club to the line, the difference between the 2 master athletes was a mere 0,52 of a second.

800m for Men 55:  Clive Cupido – 2:18.16 Western Province Champion – Gold medal

1500m for Men 55:  Clive Cupido – 5:00.01 Western Province Champion – Gold medal

400m Men 55:  Clive Cupido – 1:01.46 – Silver medal.

As a coach,  Cupido promotes barefoot running and most importantly, a healthy lifestyle which means clean eating.  Master athletes compete at an age increment of 5 years and this year’s world Championship is in Finland.  Next year the South African Masters and African Master Athletics Championships will again be held at Greenpoint Stadium.
