RUMÉ BURGER – History with new SA Record

Rumè Burger makes history in new South African Athletics record in 100 meters race – Fastest in the world

In an astonishing display of speed and talent, Rumé Burger won the 100 meters for u.17 athletes at the National High Schools meeting on Friday in a new South African record time of 11.43 seconds (officially).

This is not only a milestone for South African athletics, but also a historic moment for her school, Oranje Meisieskool, as she is the first Oranjeite in several years to win this prestigious event at national level.

Burger had already shown in the semi-finals on Thursday that she was on a record pace when she improved the previous national record of 11.58 seconds, which had stood since 2006, to 11.50. But it was in the finals where she etched her name in the record books forever.

What makes her achievement even more remarkable is that her time of 11.43 seconds is faster than the fastest time recorded by any under-18 female athlete internationally so far in 2025 (11.49 according to World Athletics record lists).

This victory not only places Burger among the country’s top youth athletes, but also shows that she is a strong contender to represent South Africa internationally. Athletics experts are already comparing her to some of the country’s greatest sprinters, and if she continues on this trajectory, she could become one of South Africa’s next big stars.

With this historic performance, Rumé Burger has not only fulfilled her own dreams, but has also inspired a whole new generation of young athletes in South Africa and especially at Oranje Meisieskool.

Stay tuned for further updates and reactions to this breathtaking achievement!
