Early school leaving has become a tragic reality, particularly for our youth who don’t complete their education. As one businessman poignantly stated at a recent community meeting, “A school career should serve as a launchpad for young people, but what happens when there are no job opportunities waiting for them?” This gap may very well be a key reason our youth are opting out of school altogether.
In disadvantaged communities, this cycle of poverty not only stifles dreams but also fuels vulnerabilities—leading to increased crime rates, including theft and domestic violence.
We must ask ourselves:

Job creation is a vital part of the solution, but the question remains: how do we engage local businesses in this mission?
As the founder of West Coast Sports Solutions, a youth organization dedicated to promoting sports among our young people, I’ve witnessed firsthand the struggles we face. Our initiative is not gaining the momentum it deserves, primarily due to a lack of community cooperation and financial support. It often feels like a dream on the verge of slipping away.
But I believe we can do more—together.
